Question 1

What game is this based on?

Accepted Answer

Scoundrel, a solo card game designed by Zach Gage and Kurt Bieg in 2011, playable with an ordinary deck of cards. Dungeon Draw follows its rules: the 44-card deck, rooms of four, weapons that wear down, one potion per room and the same scoring.

Question 2

Why can't I use my weapon on this monster?

Accepted Answer

A weapon can only fight a monster no stronger than the last one it slew. If your weapon's most recent kill was a 6, it fights a 6 or lower from then on, even if it slew a Queen before that. Fight the stronger monster barehanded, leave it as the card you carry to the next room, or pick up a new weapon, which always starts fresh.

Question 3

Why is my score negative?

Accepted Answer

A lost run scores minus the total value of every monster still in the dungeon or the room when you died. Monsters you already fought don't count. It makes a loss worth comparing: dying with one Jack left is -11, dying in the second room can be worse than -150.

Question 4

How do I score more than 20?

Accepted Answer

Clear the dungeon at exactly 20 health with a potion as the very last card you resolve. That potion had nothing left to heal, so its value is added to your score instead: 20 plus a 10 of hearts is 30, the best score there is.

Question 5

Is there a tutorial?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and it's optional. Press Tutorial under the table, or Play the tutorial in How to play. It walks you through a short practice dungeon one move at a time: picking up a weapon, how it wears down, potions, the card you carry over and avoiding a room. Nothing in it is saved or counted, and your own run is waiting when you leave.

Question 6

Is every dungeon winnable?

Accepted Answer

No. Each run is a plain shuffle of the 44 cards, as it would be at a table, and some shuffles can't be survived. Most can be taken a long way with good choices about what to fight first and what to leave behind.

Question 7

Is there a daily dungeon?

Accepted Answer

Not yet. Every run is its own shuffle, and you can play as many as you like.

Question 8

Can I undo a move?

Accepted Answer

No, on purpose. Each card shows what it will cost before you commit to it, and a fight that would end your run is marked. Once a card is resolved it stays resolved.

Question 9

Where are my best score and record saved?

Accepted Answer

In your browser's localStorage: your best score (a loss counts, since -4 is a better run than -40), how many runs you've won and lost, and the run you're in the middle of, so a refresh doesn't lose it. They stay on your device. If you're logged in to a Detour account, your best score and record are saved to your account too, and follow you to any device you log in on; an unfinished run stays in the browser you started it in.

Question 10

Can I play with a keyboard?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Press 1 to 4 to pick a card, then W to use your weapon, B to fight barehanded, E to equip or D to drink. A avoids the room and Escape puts the card back.
