Privacy

The short version: detour collects almost nothing. You can play every game without an account. Signing in is optional and only exists so your stats can sync across devices. Here's the whole picture.
Playing without an account
Your game results (streaks, times, wins) are saved in your browser's localStorage and never leave your device. We can't see them. Clearing your browser's site data resets them, and there's no way to get them back (we never had a copy).
Accounts
Optional accounts let your stats sync across devices. Signing up is always a choice, never a requirement to play.
Sign-in is handled by Clerk, which processes the details you sign up with (such as your email address) on our behalf. See Clerk's privacy policy.
Your synced stats are stored in a database hosted by Supabase, linked to your account and used only to show you your own progress. See Supabase's privacy policy. We never sell your data.
Data we store when you're signed in
This is the complete list — there is nothing else.
| What | Why | Kept until |
|---|---|---|
| Email address & sign-in details (held by Clerk) | So you can sign in | You delete your account |
| Which games you played, on which days, and whether you won | The play calendar on your profile | You delete your account |
| Your current and longest streak per game | Streak counters that follow you across devices | You delete your account |
| Today's in-progress puzzle board | So you can resume the same puzzle on another device | The day's puzzle is over, then it's deleted automatically |
Delete my account
Deleting your account permanently removes everything in the table above: your synced stats from our database and your sign-in details from Clerk. Stats saved locally in your browser aren't tied to your account and stay until you clear your site data.
Advertising (maybe, later)
There are no ads and no ad tracking today. If detour grows, we may show ads to cover costs. Ad partners typically use cookies or similar identifiers; if we add them, this policy will be updated first and any consent the law requires will be asked for before anything loads.
What we don't do
No analytics, no tracking scripts, and no cookies set by us. We don't know who you are unless you choose to make an account — and even then, we only know what's in the table above.
